Artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities advanced rapidly throughout the 2010s, yet AI exposure showed no clear relationship with occupation-level employment. Whether that inconclusive evidence conceals underlying patterns of occupational mobility remains open.
Abstract
Drawing on the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1997 (NLSY97) and the AI Occupational Exposure (AIOE) index, this study estimates discrete-time event history models to examine how AI predicted occupational mobility in the pre-large-language-model (LLM) decade (2010–2019).
